25 Random Things About Moi

I was asked by a good friend to do this, so here goes…

1. I love to play jazz but listen to Nine Inch Nails. Figure that one out.

2. Body was born in Dallas; Soul was born in NYC. Guess which one I claim as home? (Granted, I love the Cowboys, but other than that…)

3. Not a nutritional purist. My new favorite gal is, but I can’t roll that way. I have to have my fix of pizza, mexican food, et. al… heh.

4. Working out is NOT stress relief for me. It’s stressFUL. That’s okay though. To quote one of my favorite writers, “At the end of the day I wish not to be saved but to be spent.

5. I love big dogs, big cats, and small butts. One of those is in reference to humans.

6. I’m the only fully hetero guy I know who reads Wilde and Thoreau, has original art on his walls, loves interior design and fashion, and makes his living doing something creative. Oh, and I shave my chest hair. I’ve trigger gaydar at the wrong frequency on more than one occasion.

7. I’m a huge fan of Star Trek — everything about it. The vision, the shows, the cool toys, and I strive to be a combo of Kirk and Picard. Kircard. Hey, that’s close to one of my favorite writers.

8. I went to only one MENSA meeting. That was enough to let me know that I.Q. does not equate to being intelligent… and certainly does not equate to being cool.

9. The exception to #8 would be Trent Reznor, Eddie Izzard, and Ayn Rand. I’d love to have dinner with the first two and, save the fact she is deceased, with the latter.

10. I am a former youth minister turned… long story.

11. I’m the only “player” who craves monogamy. Rumor has it that I may have struck gold on that one after 45 years of searching. Well… more like 32 years of searching since I started at about 13. Stay tuned…

12. But she likes COUNTRY MUSIC. Gasp. And has no idea who Thom Yorke is. Double gasp. But she’s incredible… brilliant… beautiful… and half way around the planet. Ah, details.

13. Anyone else running out of things to say or time to type them?

14. I’m new to Facebook and Twitter, despite having already written apps for both programs. I have an “auto-add” app for Mac users. Just way too cool. I get like dozens of friend requests a day (‘cause I’m UBER COOL.. or because I have a large Internet list… hmmm… probably the latter.. again…) so now I click one button instead of 100. Love it.

15. I write computer software as a hobby. Yes, I’m a wooly mammoth geek, but I can still kick your ass… or at least look like I can. That counts you know.

16. Work is play. Therefore I play 14 hours a day.

17. I love my readers… no, I mean really “love” my readers. I wish I could meet everyone on my list at one time just to say how grateful I am to all of you for making my life what it is and giving me a small stage to voice my inner thoughts.

18. I thrive on Platoian ethics: Truth, Beauty, Justice. Take one away and all three crumble.

19. My Top 10 desert island bands would be Radiohead, The Beatles, Frank, Nine Inch Nails, Sting, Dandy Warhols, Nirvana, Aerosmith, Snow Patrol and The Stones.

20. The closest thing I’ve found to sex is Pepe’s and Mitos in Deep Ellum.

21. I want to see world peace in my lifetime. Period. To accomplish this the world must dismiss dogma for love. I suppose this is not as much a fact about me as a proclamation, but hey… my notes, my rules.

22. I’m an alpha male with a sensitive heart. This has caused more than one female to enter into a state of cognitive dissonance, but I refuse to play the “bad boy” to get the girl. The right won will (and I think has) figured it out.

23. Mentally ampedextrious. I think that’s 1.7% of the population. Works for me though most of the time. Sometimes I crash and burn, but at least I’m driving.

24. Used to race for Team Yamaha (motocross) and on the Porsche autocross circuit. I’m a divemaster as well. So… yeah… a bit of an adrenaline junkie, although on the safe side of the junkie equation.

25. Went from pro musician to pro graphic designer to this… what a journey!

I’m curious. Your apparent like for Ayn Rand contrasts with your statement that “the world must dismiss dogma for love.” Ayn Rand was exceptionally dogmatic (both in her philosophy and in her life) and quite intolerant of views that did not agree with hers. What’s more I imagine she would absolutely cringe at the sentiment of dismissing “dogma for love.” If you had been able to have dinner with her and uttered the above to her, she most likely would have treated you with extreme contempt and countered with some scathing remark designed to pierce you to the heart. Not that I’m suggesting you should be treated that way - quite the contrary. I just don’t see your generally compassionate attitude meshing with hers and find it odd that you apparently look up to her.

Or maybe you want to have dinner with her in order to have a good fight.

Yes and no Ian. Rand was dogmatic in her philosophical views in specific areas. My comment was directed toward religious dogma, which Rand would agree is destructive in the hands of certain people.

And perhaps a good fight would be in order too… ; )

Wouldn’t mind hearing the “long story” some time. Sounds like integrity is key for you - heart, mind, soul, strength. In another set of circumstances, sounds like we’d be mates (as we say here in Oz).
Cheers,
Geoff

Hello. I just wished to tell you that some parts of your site are hard to scan for me, as I’m color blind. I have problems with tritanopia, but there are more varieties of color blindness which will also experience difficulties. I will understand the largest part of the website OK, and those elements I have difficulties with I can understand by using a special browser. In any case, it’d be great if you can consider us color-blind surfers whilst carrying out the next web page design. Thank you.
