5 reasons for you to keep going
Been a bit busy my fellow 10ers — and yes, I missed a blog yesterday. Waterblocker me, right?
However, I’ve been busy continuing. Meaning, I’m progressing, moving forward, continuing on the path, scaling the world, climbing the hill, charging the bunker, taking out the enemy with AK47 assault rifles as their godless blood fills the streets and taints it crimson, forging nuclear detonating devices out of bobby pins and paper weights and…
…uhhh. Yeah.
Somewhere in there I really got lost. Pretend I’m Waldo and find me.
Here’s why you should do the same — 5 reasons why, no-less, sans that whole “blood in the streets” bit. There’s enough of that Jacko going around anyway.
Because you said so
Okay, all you parents — revenge time. You’ve copped out with the “because I said so”…what…a billion times since conceiving your rugrats? Well, that’s a billion too many! Time for some payback from a guy who should have teenagers by now but chooses to date them instead — you committed to this so honor your the contract with your self.
Isn’t it odd that really honest people, guys and gals who would never renig on a contract with another person, will often back out of contracts with themselves and not think a thing about it? Well, not you pal. Not on my blog. You’re in with 10, remember? Yeah, you do. Don’t pull a Reagan on me and pretend you can’t remember where you parked your dog. Rover is in the garage, and your Mercedes is taking a poo on somebody’s front lawn. There — you’re caught up.
So, stay the course and do not anger Bingo or he shall smite some poor black folk for no good reason.
Because you wanna
You know what the top three regrets are for people who are about to die?
- More time spent on things that would make a difference
- To have had the “time and energy” to see more of the world and do more of the things they dreamed of doing; tied with “to take more risks”
- Not enough morphine.
Yeah, I made that last one up. So what? The first two were really 1-2-3, so get the forni over it. (“Forni” was added to my blog on new swear words and why that’s important to cholesterol management just this morning.)
You wanna. You really do. You wanna more than you realize. You wanna because it means something. You wanna because it will give you the energy to do things, take risks, and live life without regrets. You wanna ‘cause it’s fun and beats the Jacko out of being forever stuck in fat clothes and shunning public swimming pools.
Because of your family
There is no way anyone can tell me that discarding fat and getting healthy and lean would not increase the happiness and “living quotient” (LQ) of your entire family. Think of setting a strong role model for your kids and becoming the spouse of your spouse’s dreams.
Because of the world
I’ve already covered how discarding fat would literally dismiss our need for Middle Eastern oil. You think that would come in handy? Sure would — for everyone except the Middle East, I suppose.
That’s not all — leaner, healthier countries have lower pollution (probably because they walk more), healthier plant life (recall basic biology), and longer life-spans.
Treat the world as if it was your home — and you wouldn’t trash your home unless you watch Jerry Springer, and in that case you’re a moron anyway. Or really bored.
Because.
Figure it out — then run with it.
Figure out that Lance rides for 6 hours a day because. That people climb Everest because. That Richard Branson is an ass because — then avoid becoming like Richard Branson.
Because is sufficient reason.
You got a watch? What time is it right now? Great…now check again.
What happened?
You just lost about 5 seconds. You didn’t gain time unless you happen to be traveling faster than light. If this is the case, please say hello to God for me.
It’s ticking, folks…life is ticking down. Make every tick count — the ticks on the watch, not real ticks. Real ticks suck and you can blow them away with a bazooka for all I care.
Why does it matter? Because. {10}

You hearing voices, Bingo? (I’m kinda known as ‘The Quiet One’ around these parts, so I rather doubt my voice was mixed up in all that…) Or was it that ‘Dear Jon’ thing, in response to the ‘please come back’ email? (I done told ya, Bo… I ain’t going nowheres).
I’m in the groove, and there’s not much chance of me getting knocked out this time around. I’m taking extreme care to perfect my lifting form, to avoid some of the minor strains that have knocked me out of the gym in the past year. Towards that end, I’ve gone totally free-weight; with the sole exception of using the leg press machine for calf work. I’ve been back at least a month (it might be five weeks, but I know it’s at least four), and already I’m pushing heavier iron (without even the slightest muscle strain), and feel stronger, than ever since first starting on this path. And I’m just as careful with timing/spacing my workouts, so that I don’t overtrain and “hit the wall” (another factor that contributed to the minor strains I mentioned above).
Nay… I’m not goin’ anywhere but here. I’m stayin’ the course; continuing. This feels too good…

I’m still here lurking, checking the blog daily. I am following the BFFM program. Down 12 in 6 thus far. Eating balanced meals 5-6 times a day. Drinking about a gallon of water a day . Full Body resistance training every other day. Cardio 5-7 times a week ( Treadmill/Hiking & Snow Shoeing ). As a reference for cardio I am use Aerobic Points. I shoot for 50+ aerobic Points a week. I am looking to lose 45 total before “Maintenace for Life”. It’s simple but not easy shedding fat. My passion is hiking in the Olympic and Cascade Mountains. My motivation is be able to carry just a pack on my back without the “Fat Pack” on my front. It’s a lot less work that way.

First off, I hope this entry won’t get trashed like the one I typed Friday, which was chock-full of japes and jibes the likes of which Reba and Rumsfield will never see. Dag-nabbed OSX keeps crashing on me.
Second, hilarious comment about the teens there, Jingo! Perfect comedic timing and whatnot.
Third and, finally, to the topic of the day: One more reason to keep going.. It seems like I can’t say this enough, but Holy Scheiss, some bodybuilder done et that porky Benson feller. A refresher for those who haven’t heard it yet…I worked with/for Jon Back In The Day, about 9 years ago, when he was the “Before” pic on his website, maybe even more so. Seredipitously ran across the Fit Over 40 site about a month ago and had to do a double-take. Could this guy be the same Benson I’ve witnessed inhaling a whole rack of baby back ribs, then demanding the rest of the dad-blasted baby?
Consarn it, if HE can do it, then I can do it! (Heretefore abbreviated as the “IHCDITICDI” rationale.) My own, personal Reason #6.
In nutshell, Reason No. 6 for me is Negative Motivation™.
Doesn’t sound like a good thing, does it? And, for me, it’s not as important as Jingo’s reasons #1-#5, which are positives. But—being honest with myself—some of the reasons I have for doing things are not always warm-fuzzies. Sometimes we do things to spite a rival at the High School Reunion, or show up the loudmouth at work. As long as we recognize these motivators for what they are, and don’t give them the power-position as our primary purpose, I say use the energy.
Now, there’s no realistic way that I can do what Jon did, so I know the argument “IHCDITICDI” is just horse-hooey. But I can try! And so far the effort has been paying off.
• I’m wearing trousers this morning that wouldn’t even zip up last month, and they’re a bit loose.
• My phytness-center goal this week is to get up to 15 minutes running on the treadmill…when I started last month I barely made it two minutes walking.
• I’m transitioning from the Machines to free-weights and yesterday I saw something I hadn’t seen for 25 years—a faint blue line on my right bicep!
So, yeah, my motivations pretty much line up with Jingo’s. With a couple negatives thrown in, such as I want to look better in shorts than Richard Simmons! and I want to curl more weight than Paris Hilton! (Paris weighs about 60 pounds and I can curl 50, so I’m getting close!)

Thanx for the reminder on reasons to keep going. I needed it. The one that really hit home was the fact that I wouldn’t shun a contract or responsibility or committment with someone else that I made, how dare I shun one with myself! I must remind myself that to keep those committments with those that I choose to make, I must be healthy enough to do it. It needs to come from within or go without. I just made that up.
