Helpful Hints For Total Health

A New Way To Fight Summer Colds
While vitamin C and liquid echinacea under the tongue are still great ways to stave off a summer cold, I have discovered something even better. The combination is great for any upper respiratory condition, but ideal for colds:

Oregano Oil and Olive Leaf Extract.

The dose I have been given is about 200 mg of oregano oil (100mg 2x per day) combined with up to 5 grams of olive leaf extract, taken in 1.5-2 gram dosages 2-3 times per day.

Give this a shot when you feel a cold coming on and let me know if it works for you, too.

Consider This For Depression
Okay, here’s the big caveat: I am NOT a mental health professional, and by all means, pass this recommendation by your doctor and/or therapist before using it.

That being said, simple magnesium aspartate has been shown to help depression — specifically clinical depression. In cases where magnesium is truly deficient, it has eradicated depressive symptoms almost immediately.

When there is a true chemical imbalance, magnesium can still help, along with whatever therapy your doctor recommends.

The past few weeks were a real struggle for me. Many personal challenges, along with a very annoying inability to concentrate at work and in the gym. I also noticed specific signs of magnesium depletion — unusual fatigue in the muscles, cramping, and the dreaded depressive symptoms to boot.

I took 400mg of magnesium aspartate along with 120mg of Ginkgo biloba, standardized to 6% terpene lactones, twice a day. It only took 30 minutes to notice a profound difference in my strength and my ability to concentrate. Within just one hour, my depressive symptoms were gone.

Rye Crackers: A Great Low-Carb Snack
I never would have thought I’d enjoy rye crackers, but Quilt’s Brand changed my mind. Their rye crackers have a whopping 10 grams of carbs per large cracker — that’s it! The crunch is superb, and the taste is very subtle.

I just had a cracker with about a tablespoon of organic peanut butter on it. (I prefer almond butter, but we were out.) This yummy snack contained only 150-175 calories and less than 15 grams of carbs — and it will keep me satiated for hours!

These tips and more will be heading your way frequently on my upcoming Every Other Day Diet website. Go there now and subscribe to the updates for free. The book is due out in just a week or so…stay tuned!

Jon, hot weather depletes magnesium also, and now I don’t dare miss my usual 450 mg dose of m.oxide.(Prefer citrate.) And my Ry-Krisp crackers have only 9 carbs ( 3 crackers at 27 gms carbs and 5 gms fibre.) I also eat them with peanut butter. But even they are not recommended for celiac sufferers, as the gluten causes problems.

John,

I see you take a holistic approach to health very much as I do. I have been asthmatic most of my life. Since I have switched to eating whole foods I am finding that I don’t need my medicine as much as I use to..

PS. I recentle got a change in my medication (unbenonced to me, I hope I spelled that right). When I called the pharmacist about the change they told me that they changed the medication because they were taking the carcinigens out of the aerosol inhalers because they didn’t want to affect the earth’s atmosphere. I said “We’ll what about the people that are taking this medication, what about us”???

He said “Well that what they told me to say”!!!!

Go figure

Does the magnesium have to be the aspartate or does the citrate give the same results? I sometimes will waken from a deep sleep with painful cramps in my legs and I know I have to take my magnesium citrate.

I have never seen the Quilt’s brand of rye crackers in Canada - what other brand is as good?

Great suggestions Jon - thank you!!

I just picked a slug of apricots and plums from our orchard with my two sons. We all ate too many and will probably get gut aches.. but …. Life absolutely does not get any better.

Happy Summer.

Just wanted to say thank you!! This is not the first time one of your articles has made the little light bulb go on for me!

Lately I’ve been feeling ‘blah’ - no energy, no desire to exercise. I’ve been experiencing a little twitch in my eye for a few weeks, I feel stiff and had a crazy leg cramp in my sleep the other night. It hurt all the next day. Well, I had stopped taking my supplements - can’t really tell you why - which included … ding, ding, ding … magnesium! Ahhh soo, grasshoppa. I guess I really do need it, and I guess it really DOES make a difference! Then I had to Google magnesium and it turns out if just one of my doctors when I was pregnant knew about this lovely mineral, I might have avoided pre-elampsia and gestational diabetes!! (or at least reduced the symptoms) You know that kinda pisses me off! But I digress ….

I really just wanted to say thanks for the information you put out there. I know it has helped me tremendously and I feel it has helped several others out there as well.

Peace,
Melissa
