Just when I thought . . .

Wow, what a strange day.

First I have like, I dunno, 22 hours of time to kill. Or so it seemed. I’m not accustomed to having “nothing” to do — or rather having nothing I was committed to doing. Yepper, I’m human, and today was one of those, “Eh…whatever…maybe tomorrow” kind of days.

Except for training…and a bit of a “thought surprise.”

This whole day has been a bit off. Other than the time on my hands and the general malaise I felt, I am also consuming less food (all in the plan) and readjusting to this whole, “Oh yeah…you’re a bodybuilder!” lifestyle. It’s coming back big-time, but like all adjustments, there’s a momentary shift of emphasis.

Fear not (or fear, depending on your position); I shall blog. I shall blog. I’ve kept my promise and then some — daily blogging, and we’re nearing the half-way point. Can you believe it? So, we’re looking for about 5 pounds of fat from ya.

Just mail it to me, courtesy of:

Richard Simmons
P.O. Box 5403
Beverly Hills, CA 90209-5403

That’s a real address. I say we mail him all our fat.

Wouldn’t that just be really cool? I mean, if you could KEEP the gobs of fat you lost in some sort of trophy case and then dump it off on Richard Simmons?

I did mention the need for therapy, so it really should come as no surprise that I would find something “cool” in this fantasy.

So, onward…here’s the low-down:

I cut my MasterMeals back to 3-4 for the next few days in prep for Thanksgiving. I will be having the standard: turkey (about 8-10 oz), stuffing (enjoy stuffing, and I only have it 2x/year), corn and one small dessert. I’ll be walking later that evening to offset some of the calories with my mom; it will be nice to have her over for a day or so. She’s 80 and walks 3-4 miles per day. And your excuse is…what again? Ha. I love to brag on her.

Tonight I felt ‘compelled’ to train thanks to a post from a client. Oh, okay…I was gonna anyway, but he helped up my enthusiasm 200%, and consequently I died.

Ha. Had you there. I’m still alive. Really.

I pushed very hard tonight; brief, but hard. About 20 minutes of actual lifting, and all I trained was arms, delts and a few sets of legs. After the workout I opted for a set of “step-ups” to get my quads back into the game. The idea was not to train legs at all for another month, but I couldn’t resist the urge, so I hit a few sets of hamstring curls (standing) and a set of step-ups to get my knee (recovered, but undertrained) back into the notion of going up and down a lot.

Afterwards, the lightheadedness reared its ugly…head?…but not so bad. Obviously my treatment for this has yet to begin due to time, but I’m confident of the problem now and the solution. The good news is that it was much less than expected. I pushed ‘hard’ — every set. At the end, I was already feeling it a bit, but decided on the legs. I figured I had the head-thing coming, but except for a bit of fog, nothing major. Post-workout hypotension upon standing still, but that very well may be the fact that my blood pressure is too low now and I need to alter some things.

No matter — it passed and I’m not letting a damn thing stop me.

Tonight I actually trained “sleeveless” in the gym. It’s odd not seeing my arms with a lot of veins and about two inches larger, but they’re an inch larger than when I started a mere, what, two-three weeks ago? Muscle comes back fast. More veins, but a ways to go. That’s fine — I’ll be 100% by NYC-time next year, and 125% after (I plan to best my previous condition by a full 25%. More on that later.)

Now, after this, check it: I fell asleep. I was already hungry about an hour after I ate a large post-workout meal (lean spicy beef, new potatoes in olive oil, organic tortilla, veggies.) I went to stretch out before showering and having a protein drink, you know, for about 10 minutes…and the next thing I knew it was freakin’ midnight. Wow. That’s one excuse I’ll buy off on for missing a MasterMeal: falling asleep.

Still, I woke up really hungry and, given the day, even more out of it. I went to make some food, run to the store, and that’s when it hit me: a burst of creative ideas and new energy. This, despite the fact I smell. (The nap happened prior to ever hitting the shower, you’ll recall.)

I blogged back to a new reader tonight (you can read that response by clicking here) about how M-Power pretty much tapped me out of audio ideas. It’s true, at least in the sense of “I don’t know what more needs to be said…it’s 48 weeks, for Buddha’s sake”, but Gabe put an attraction statement into my subconscious without even knowing it. (Thanks Gabe…I’ll cut you in for .0000001% of the royalties, cool? : )

This blog isn’t just about my ‘great new idea’…it’s about how ideas and elements of progression can hit you when you least expect it. All you need is an open mind and a bit of understanding of how Law of Attraction works.

First, the idea. I was thinking to myself, “Self…”

No, I won’t put you through that again.

I was thinking about what I said to Gabe; about how my team is always endeavoring to improve M-Power and so-forth. I asked, “Is there really nothing more you can say, or have you overlooked something?”

For some reason, my mind drifted to my favorite songs of all-time…and then to a seemingly off-subject question: “If you had to list them, what would be your Top 5 Songs of All Time? Meaning, what 5 songs rock your world the most and had the most impact on the world of music at the same time?” Of course, this is completely subjective, and I’m sure I’ll get a lot of you blogging your Top 5…feel free, as mine will probably horrify you. Newly added: clips of each song! How nice of me to annoy you so, right?

In no particular order:

  • One; U2 from Achtung, Baby
This song, as mentioned in an earlier blog, was voted the top song of all time by Rolling Stone, so I’m in good company for thinking it hung the moon as well. Not only influential in countless ways, “One” was an anthem of an idea that Bono has stretched into a fantastic effort to feed the world and do something more with his fame than nail supermodels…although I’m pretty sure he does that, too.

  • March Of The Pigs; Nine Inch Nails from The Downward Spiral
As far as “changing rock” goes, most people would give a nod to bands like Skinny Puppy and Ministry prior to NIN, but this song, as opposed to the much-more commercially-successful Closer off the same CD, just flat-out gave rock-n-roll a kick in the bollocks at a time it needed it the most. Two and a half minutes of sonic assault that combined the best traits of rock, punk, alternative and industrial music.

  • Combination; Aerosmith from Rocks
I was torn between this and the song, Toys In The Attic from the LP with the same name. Both could easily be on my list. “Toys” changed the sound of rock guitar forever. However, “Combination”, a song few people have even heard, was just raw, nasty (sound-wise), brutal Aerosmith back when Tyler and Perry were known as the OD Duo. (Not really, but either could be dead right now…instead Joe looks 20 years younger than his age and has abs. I hate the guy.) There’s a certain sound that you just can’t duplicate without a bit of magic; Aerosmith had that magic on more than one occasion, but this is my fav.

  • A Day In The Life; Beatles from Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band
I know, I know…a million Beatles songs could have been selected, and this wasn’t their best album…that nod would go to…god, who knows. Too many great ones. However, again, this changed a lot of musical parameters. Clever and funny mixed with backwards orchestra tracks…well, that has “Jon” written all over it. Of course the melody; what Beatles’ tune doesn’t have the best melody ever written? I can listen to Something a hundred times without growing tired of the chord progression or melody.

  • Creep; Radiohead from Pablo Honey
Last, but not even least, another anthem-like song for a generation. “Creep” did more than introduce Radiohead, in my mind the greatest band alive, to a generation of slackers and dorks. “Creep” opened more musical doors, creating a combination of grunge and incredibly haunting melodic vocals from (give me your voice) Thom Yorke. The man can sing like there’s no tomorrow. Nirvana (another fav of mine) had the same gig going on, but Kurt Cobain certainly never had Yorke’s voice, nor did he care too much I think. Still, this song and a dozen others from Radiohead belongs on my Top 5 list…but then it would be my Top 17 list, and no one has a Top 17 “anything”.

For the record, you can toss in 2+2=5 from their CD Hail To The Thief, and make this a Top 6. Oh, and I love the comment from Ink Blot Magazine: Matt Melvin tries his best to describe Radiohead’s genius: “I believe the best band in the world is Radiohead. Their greatest asset is their songwriting ability. The inventiveness of Johnny Greenwood’s guitar playing and Thom Yorke’s mesmerizing and chilling vocals put a fininshing touch on one of the last hopes for good music out there.” Amen, Matt, amen. Radiohead (as much as I love Aersomith, Rush, RATM, NIN, Red Hot CPs, Nirvana, and (yes) Seal and Sting) would be the one band I’d take with me on CD if left on a desert island for life. Just make sure you supply me with decent headphones, you evil person who stranded me there, you. They’re like the “squat” of music — I’d squat over any exercise, closely followed by dips. So, yeah…Radiohead and NIN is like the dips and squats of tuneage. Ha.

So, there you have it…Jon as a music critic. Everyone is a music critic, eh?

Now, back to the FREAKIN’ POINT…I can hear you screaming from Dallas.

During this “Top 5” trip, I realized that each of these songs are on my workout mix, kept handy on my trusty iPod to musically avenge the “dum, dum, dum, dum, dum, dum, dum, dum, ad infinitum” music played at most gyms today. It’s like some ass named “Trevor” bought himself a drum machine and never made it past page 1 of the f-n owner’s manual. What do you want people to do, Mr. Hip Gym Owner, start club dancing while doing squats? Moron. Put on some rock, or put on nothing at all. Some people don’t like rock, but very few will hurl 25-pound plates at the gym speakers to prevent it from entering their gray matter. I have, and shall again, if exposed to some flea-bitten drum machine dance piece of crap when I’m busy doing incline bench presses.

Bastards, one and all.

Same reaction to, say, N-SYNC, or any other band that resembles The Mickey Mouse Club Gone Gay video cover.

Bastards, one and all.

So, you see, music is important.

You’re STILL waiting on me to make my point, aren’t you?

Bastards, one and all.

The point is that I’m listening to something that motivates me, moves me, and inspires me all at the same time when I train. It puts me in my own world while, at the same time, opens the door of creative influence to my subconscious.

I asked myself, “Is there a way to improve on this? It’s hardly a ‘new’ idea…listening to music while training…but the whole ‘creative door’ thing is interesting.”

The answer came, and my next project will be set into motion next year.

I will be killing three birds with one honkin’ stone (what do we have against birds, anyway?) with the release of “M-Power’s Creative Workout Series”. That’s the name I just thought up. Don’t laugh…I may keep it.

The idea is this: first, provide people with a variety of workouts that I KNOW work and work well in either MP3 or CD format (or both.) These workouts will be the same as the ones we already provide in M-Power through our personal trainers, merely in audio format. Hang with me…this is cool.

The audio is paced according to differing and progressive rest intervals. I’m literally “speaking” to you as you train, reminding you what to think about during your rest intervals, and pushing you through sets and reps. There’s almost no way you can fail during a session like this; the guesswork is not only removed, but all the time most people completely waste in the gym — the invaluable rest intervals — are maximized by power thinking, focusing techniques, challenging statements, and more.

Sounding even better, eh? Well, one more thing to top it all off: you’re coached through each rep in real-time as I remind you of form and all the tricks of the trade to make the most out of every rep.

So, we have education (basic workout in audio format), motivation (the rep-to-rep, set-to-set instructions), and creation (I’ll be challenging you each workout to be more creative during rest intervals, asking you questions that set your mind up for more success, etc.)

Hey, just when you think you’ve heard it all…

Sure, there are challenges with this idea, but nothing that cannot be overcome. Many improvements and alterations will no-doubt occur between now and the time the first audio is available. The end result will be something that will tap into the conscious and subconscious mind in a very powerful way. As far as I know, this is a new idea. Frank Zane had something similar once, but it was more “hypnotic” than useful, and not patterned after a given workout program.

This will also solve another pseudo-challenge I face. Many clients tell me they listen to M-Power audios ‘during’ their workouts. I always make sure this is during their cardio workouts, as M-Power is far too intense to be listening to during a heavy set of…anything. Still, most people want to listen to something while training. I’m flattered that they would listen to ‘me’, but with Creative Workouts, I can give them something that’s more useful during weight training sessions. Cardio is ideal for M-Power, so now you can have the matching set. Just like china, only you don’t have to wash it.

I really love this new idea — and what a fitting way to end a day that, by my standards, was nearly a complete wash. It just goes to prove that there is always more out there. Inspiration and great questions are the ticket to a life of constant and enjoyable challenges.

Let me know what you think…for now, it’s back to bed for Bingo. {10}

Terrific idea BINGO :) As I was hill-hiking yesterday, with my trusty CD player loaded up with MY favs, I thought how cool it was to have a CD for cardio with songs whose tempo varied enough to keep my hiking workouts challenging….See, I only pick songs that have a fast enough beat to walk/stride to. I vary the length and ‘power’ behind each step according to the tune. Some songs are even conducive to walking lunges. Place said list of songs on my head while hiking up the steep hills of the neighboring ski slope, and voila! kick-ass interval cardio :) I rotate them so that each workout is a little different pace and intensity-wise. I’ve put together 4 or 5 such CD’s to date, and I never get tired of hearing any of them

I’m one of those people that pretty much have music playing 24/7, if I can get away with it. It speaks to my soul, drives my mind. What a cool idea to put motivational statements/instruction to music. (I probably could have done well even with Physics in school, had I been able to put the content to music somehow :)
HOWEVER, and I had this same argument with my gym-owner-boss the other day, not ALL lifters like to lift to HEAVY METAL, or HARD ROCK, or bad club mixes, or whatever the genre. PLEASE mix up the music in your soon-to-be-creation. I prefer R&B myself….hard not to pump it when the BarKays are goin’ off on Holy Ghost, IMHO :)
Also, a topic came to mind that I hope you will address in your audios—that of the ‘addictive personality’ (IS there such a thing? and can M-Power tools such as LOA and power statements be used to overcome addictive tendencies/behaviors??) Perfectionism, obsessive-compulsive behavior, addiction (whether to substances or experiences) seem to have so many behavior/patterns of thought in common, if to differing degrees. Would love to hear your thoughts on this, or if not those, the words “yes, a future M-Power audio is aimed at overcoming addictions….” :)
Alyson
Oh yeah, and I’m down 8 out of 10 pounds almost effortlessly (if you don’t count the strict adherence to my nutritional plan and kick-ass workouts, that is :) ROCK-(or R&B)-ON 10-ers!!

Howdy Bingo,
Great idea. Just keep ‘em coming, you big lug, you.
I’d like to expand on Ayson’s question regarding “addictive personality/behavior” thought patterns. I guess that M-Power does not cover this topic? I tend to be an overachiever-perfectionist (PhD and all) and I think that this is a thought pattern related to covering feelings/beliefs of inadequacy. In the last few years I’ve become aware of how negative self talk contributes to these false beliefs but I am still having a hard time relaxing into just BEING without expectations. Gosh, that would be nice! I am thinking about (read fixin’ to) purchasing M-Power to once and for all rid myself of limiting beliefs-but do you cover this sort of thing in M-Power?
I’m down 1.5 lb of pure unadulterated adipose tissue. Will have to give the coconut oil a whirl.
Thanksgiving meal: breast meat, a bit of yams, cranberries (I’m making a recipe that rocks!), something green/salad, and a slice of pecan pie. I do miss good pecan pie since leaving Texas, so I will allow myself a piece. Not into pumpkin pie. I also plan to workout that morning and/or walk later in the day. We’ve been having weird foggy days in Seattle so indoor workouts have been my choice recently.
Jon, you are unique. Thank you for being you.

Jon,
FANTASTIC idea!!!
I listen to a cardio program on my i-pod that has techno music and voice suggestions. And they are all basically the same (30 min cardio). But,if I were lifting with you in my ear secretly inspiring me to greatness… well I guess the personal trainers will be thinking..”I won’t approach that person and ask if they want to pay for my “help” :). Actually I’ve have a “new-to-the-gym 20-something female trainer who wastes my time trying to sell me on her training me. Can’t figure out if she is hitting on me or really feels I need help after lifting more years than her age. She’s gonna find out soon what “no” means when she finds herself under my watchfull stare/strong forearm :) doing jumping jacks by the weight machines like an idiot (like the trainers make everyone do!) (I feel sorry for new people coming to the gym, thinking they need help, and end up paying to lose self-respect!) But I digress, Jon there is something very motivating about your voice. You really should capitalize on it. It would be good for you and all the rest of us. I’m sure at least some of us, who listen to MPower while working out have made the connection to the sound of your voice and the changes you have inspired in us through the thought provoking content of the program. A pavlovian type response. Your idea is really great..I’m glad it came to you. And please make it rock music for the weights. It’s nice to know (I guess) that most gyms have gone to generic music because I was thinking I might have to change gyms for a better atmosphere. I really wish my gym would just turn down their crummy music..don’t they see that 75% of the people working out have ear plugs on? Rock music really inspires “power” in my lifting unlike any-other genre of music. Period. Wow..your idea is such a great one! Really, really great!

Great Idea, Bingo! Just do me a favor and make it a workout you can do at home with minimal equipment, like dumbells and a bench (I’m not anti-gym, I’d just rather workout at home.) As far as progress goes, I finally got the courage to weigh myself after 3 months of laziness and eating in restaurants all the time and I only gained 8 pounds. In reality it’s probably only 3 or 4 pounds of fat since body weight fluctuates so much. I know you’re anti-scale but I’m a scientist and I need numbers, damnit! (I like to weigh myself every day and chart it all out in a graph and then use a nice smoothing algorithm on it, very nerdy stuff.) Oh, and here’s my top 5 songs:
- Birdhouse in your Soul; They Might be Giants from Flood
- Insanity; Oingo Boingo from Boingo
- Workers Song; Dropkick Murphys from Blackout
- We Close Our Eyes; Oingo Boingo from some album, I can’t remember which
- Believe; Yellowcard from Ocean Avenue

I know, I have weird taste in music.

And a thought on holiday eating..
Eat only the foods that you really want and don’t get very often. Why feel obligated to eat some of everything (even if auntie is watching) when what you really want is just a piece of pie? Just have a slice of turkey and a piece of pie. Who said you had to eat all the “side” food groups?
As far as exercise, if there are kids involved..get something group related going..show the little tykes how fun adults can be when active.

To All:

I should have been more clear — this is an alternative to music, as there’s no way to change the music for everyone over a 20-40 minute workout session.

However, always the one to get inspired by others, how cool would it be to have the ability to do just that, but do it online? Hmmm…have no idea if that’s possible or economically feasible, but I’ll check into it.

It may be one of those, “Add 40 minutes of your favorite music for an additional $49” thing, but to me that would be well worth the bucks.

The original thought was to have either ‘no’ music or an old hypnotherapy trick and have a pulse that basically locks you into the moment and what I’m saying. This pulse would have generic “momentum music” as I call it, but subtle enough not to bother anyone. Basically you’d be much more focused on the words than any audio, which ‘is’ the drawback of adding audio, come to think of it. Hmmm again. See? Lots of thinking goes into this stuff! And you guys and gals get to come along for the ride on this one. Nifty.

If I opt for the pulse, I’d give you like 5 choices or something. The music would not be in a ‘genre’ (rock, country, gagmepop, or whatever)…just fyi.

The benefits of this would be two-fold: first, no hassle over musical tastes. Second, I could hypnotize all of you into buying everything I sell from now until the end of time.

(insert evil laugh here…)

To Lisa:
All of you will be the first to know!

To Alyson:
Two things: first, I agree that not all people like rock, but have you ever lobbed 25s at the speakers? Probably not. : ) The long post above this one will explain the “no music theory”, or the alternative I came up with to address this. Believe me, as one who really detests poor music in a gym, the last thing I’d ever want to do is sell a workout CD with MY musical tastes plastered all over it for 40 minutes.

Now, with M-Power, you have to live with a 40-second intro of music, but hey…that’s cool. : )

Second: M-Power directly covers the “myth” of addition! Not only that, but overcoming perfectionist tendencies and compulsive behaviors are also covered. After that audio, you’ll have a hard time convincing yourself that you are ‘addicted’ to anything to nutrition, oxygen, clothing, etc. : )

To Gabe:
Ah, yeah…you know, I forgot that The Chisel Your Abs DVD comes with 4 free weeks of M-Power…but it’s not “free”, as has been requested. I have a plan, which I’ll carry out for the rest of you after the holiday. HA! It will rule.

To Dr. Janet:
ROCK ON…1.5 pounds of “pure adipose tissue”…spoken like a GOOD doctor (not one who sucks… : )

We’ll get that to 10 in no-time…and we’re all behind you. Thanks for the kind posts, Dr…and the great sense of humor you must have as well.

Oh, btw…whenever you see M-Power in this red color, that’s a link to purchase the product.

FYI.

No “hints” or anything…really. Promise.

Sorta.

To Cherie:
First of all, let’s clear this up right NOW about your trainer:

What’s her phone number? 20-something, hits on chicks…this really needs…uhhhh…further investigation. You know. To protect you…and stuff.

Okay, now that THAT is settled…heh.

About the voice: it’s hard to keep up with who’s on M-Power and who isn’t, since this is open to anyone, and the blog is growing by 500 or so a week.

I’d say M-Power IS the ultimate “Jon capitalizing on his hypnotic voice” endeavor. I was a bit shocked to hear it. I’ve been told “radio voice” for a long time, but I never heard it on my phone machine.

However, a good mic comes my way, and presto…I’m like Howard Stern without the profanity and penchant for strange lesbian tricks. (Really, MP is not a comedy act…quite intense, actually.)

Thank you for the kind words in all regards, and I’ll try to keep working the vocals to make up for the fact I cannot sing like Thom Yorke, which really peeves me.

To Kirsty:
Okay…so you’re stuck in the 80s…but that’s good 80s! I guess you dig the Jacko out of all Tim Burton flicks as well since Danny boy is now writing film music as quickly as Stephen King writes…whatever he writes.

Thanks for blogging the music! Great to hear other people’s tastes.

Now, let’s get that “only gained three pounds” to, “I’ve discarded 10 pounds of PURE FAT” over the next 10 weeks, deal?

To Tracey:
You know? Zep is a tad overrated to me, but I cannot deny the impact they had on all music (Aerosmith to a degree, but no where near the degree most critics wanted to lambast them with off the first LP.) I love “Whole Lotta Love”, which could have made my Top 10 for sure.

To Lisa:
All I can say is this:

I’ll save her.

Gladly. : )

To Ame:
Thanks, and I answered your questions via email. : )

To Randy:
Yeah bro…agreed. The trouble is when you live in Dallas. The only “woods” we have exist outside my window. They’re quite lovely to look at, but like a lot of other things in Dallas, upon closer inspection I smell death on them.

Literally.

It’s a 150-year-old cemetery. Cool from this floor as all you can see are ‘very’ well-fertilized trees. But I wouldn’t to a Henry David and move there to write the great American novel, part II.

Ya know, only one of those songs came out in the 80’s. And yes, 10 weeks from now I’ll be bragging about the 10 pounds of pure fat that I lost. My big news of the day is that starting next Thursday, I’m getting a big box of fresh organic veggies delivered to me every week! The farm is only 4 miles from my house and it’s cheaper than buying the same amount of non-organic pesticide-covered veggies from the store. SWEET!

Great to hear everybody’s music prefrence - you will all hate me when i tell you that i am right into trance and electronica and eurodance music but don’t hold it against me - I am from Europe and I am Polish - so there this is what I listen to and this is the kind of music that moves me and inspires me to do more. Rock doen’t do anything for me and half of the time i have no idea what everybody is blogging about (even you jon - sorry.

The only thing that i have accomplished today is the fact that I think i have finished writing this god forsaken ethics paper. but who knows maybe this evening i’ll go for a run or a brisk walk.

Wow, what a great idea! I am very, very moved by music. My Ipod has everything on it from country to rap but alas no dance music - I think I would go on a three state killing spree (just KIDDING).

Anyhow, this audio idea would be a great way to help folks focus and get motivated ESPECIALLY if they are new or coming back to weight training. LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT.

Sorry I’ve been remiss about blogging. Had a couple of projects due and a VERY long run on Sunday. 15 miles in 2:09. I was thrilled with the run. I was low on “fuel” toward the end but ran over the “finish” in record time. Had I run another mile, I would have beaten my 16 mile run time by 11 minutes! Let’s hear it for shedding fat!!

I’m resting for two days because my stomach has been irritated since before my run on Sunday so I am taking it easy and fully recovering before I enjoy my usual “ass kicking” weight workouts for the week. I miss the gym, my body craves it like it used to crave chips and sugar…. I like the new craving MUCH better.

Anna, glad to hear you might be closer to finishing that paper. You also sound like you are doing much better!

Sometimes dancing around the house (especially if you did it to your favorite music) jolts me into a more energetic place.

When I first started eating healthfully, I had a couple of weeks where I was really low energy and had very little strength. I think my body must have been detoxifying or something. I found that drinking more water helped and taking a very balanced multi-vitamin. Don’t know if this will help you but I thought I’d offer it.

Glad to be back on the blog - nice to be around all of you 10ers….

I agree with Randy - but then I’m surrounded by forests and mountains and bubbling brooks and twittering birds (who are slowly dying from the avian flu). I don’t own an ipod, either. But maybe if Jon offered a free one for the first thousand people who purchased “M-Power’s Creative Workout Series”, I would consider converting.

Hi Jon,

Just a few thoughts on the MP3 idea.

For my cardio I currently subscribe to cardiocoach.com. These are a great motivation for interval training, have music in the back ground and voice overs at appropriately timed intervals - e.g 30 second sprint followed by 30 second recovery time etc.

I think the idea applied to weight lifting routine would be fabulous and motivating. There are a few positive synergies here - because we have to change our routines reasonabley often there would need to be a series of tracks - i.e. shoulder track A, shoulder track B etc. These could there fore be mixed and matched. In a gym session I might do shoulder track A followed by Arm track C. In this manner I could also choose from the backing music I like if there were enough selections - I might like the music you used for shoulder track A and hate C - so I wouldn’t have to use it.

The exercises could be conducted as described e.g dumbell curl, but the appropriate weight chosen by the user. To change interval time I guess there is always the pause button!

I also do “pump” classes, which is barbell work to music divided into leg, chest, back and hamstring, tricep, biceps, lunges, shoulders Abs. All done in 1 hour - great cardio and weights work out. Only problem is it is a fairly high rep work out- but the formula would work well also if applied to low reps with appropriate breaks.

Love your work.

Ron Edwards.
