One
A quickie, but a goodie…
One by U2. Voted “The Greatest Rock Song” by Rolling Stone last year, I believe. Deservedly so, although it’s hardly a pounding anthem. The sublime yet powerful lyrics is what drove this tune to masterpiece status.
My blog today is about the magic and power of one — not the song, but the concept of one distinction. A distinction is just a “tweak in the noodle”…another way of looking at something. “One” fits this exercise well. See what you think of my list of “one”s, and then feel free to blog your own.
More about my workout and nifty stuff later today…

One
One new phrase, one new mantra, one new idea can change
every day of your life from this day forward.
One new concept learned from a book, program or blog that
changes your life for the better makes it worth
a thousand times what you paid for it.
One smile can erase a thousand frowns, and can be given
to anyone at anytime.
One extra rep is all you need to progress in the gym —
for the rest of your life.
One extra minute, one extra yard, one extra step is often the
difference between mediocrity and excellence.
One extra meal often makes the difference between no gains
and total progression.
One negative thought can dilute an entire day; often an entire life.
Think about it, then root it out.
One action taken in certainty is better than one thousand
taken in doubt.
One goal achieved is a clear sign that you can achieve the next,
and the next, and the next…
One word can change a disempowering sentence into a Power Statement.
One misplaced word can damage the mind and the lives of
everyone around you, including yourself.
One power word can do just the opposite.
One hard workout is better than four mediocre workouts; remember this the next time your schedule only allows for limited training.
One “real” exercise (like the barbell squat) is better than 10
“pseudo-exercises” (like the leg extension machine.) Choose the
one that gives you the biggest bang for the buck, then master it.
One step toward mastery is all you need to achieve excellence.
Just take that step each and every day.
One bullet can kill. One touch can heal. Make the choice.
One friend is worth a thousand acquaintances.
One love is worth a thousand lifetimes.
One small change to your nutrition plan can make the difference
between a “diet” and a “lifestyle”.
One extra hour in the office a day can make you wealthy.
One extra hour with your family can make you a hero.
One extra minute with yourself can make you aware,
alive and engaged.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
These are my thoughts — nuts, bolts, and ha-has later. {10}

This is wonderful! I love it. Jon you know I am big on distinctions. It’s funny that you blogged this today. I was just thinking about distinctions on my way to the gym tonight.
GREAT workout tonight. Shoulders and biceps. I’ve been breaking the workouts up by reducing the areas of the body worked so I can focus on some areas that need more effort than others and it seems to be paying off. My biceps aren’t nearly as defined as my triceps so singling them out is helping.
My mantra for today, “You are a lean, mean bicep building machine (and I love you).” My body responded by allowing an extra exercise….
Not sure if I’ve lost weight. I didn’t weigh myself because I didn’t run today. I weigh myself before my run and after to make sure I drink enough water so I am properly hydrated. However, the clothes are fitting well and I can see a stronger outline of the AB muscles. I can also see distinct leg muscles so the fat must me movin’ on out…..
Very ideal eating day today. I was right on time with every meal as the chime was sounding…. it is an OBNOXIOUS chime but hey, a woman’s gotta do what a woman’s gotta do….

I put my scale away to the basement (baby steps)
I have been doing 10in10 for about 4 weeks now, and yes you are right I do feel better and yes I do look better on certain parts of my body. So really I shouldn’t complain - I guess.
I must say that i do write down all your suggestions and the suggestions of all the 10ers that are given to me and i am really greatfull.
I am sorry for my vent yesterday. I hope you really didn’t take this literally because to tell you the truth I would really be scared to kick somebody’t behind for they may return the favor and that would hurt (not a fan of pain)My mouth is just big but I am not a violent person - I don’t know sometimes I feel like the whole world is against me for some reason (guess who needs to be medicated :) )
You also were right that the negative emotions create cascade of hormonal responses, the day was just bad for me yesterday I went to bed really early with terrible knots in my back - I was in pain.
but i had a good night sleep and i do feel better and looking foreward to my workouts today. while i was putting my makeup on i was planning my day and i am ready to go.
Thank you so much for your help-I would like you to know how much you have already influenced my life for the better but there is not enough space in here to tell you - You did already so much for me that my appriciation is great.
Also, thank you Elisa for your supportive words and confirming that I am not the only one out there who feels like that from time to time.
If I could I would hug you all at the same time
thank you

Jon, I thought you would really like to see this quote. It too is by Albert E. But it goes great for the Mpowered folks.
“We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.”

I appreciate the way you emphasize not only the physical changes but mental and emotional changes to make one at a time, whether its adding a meal or something as simple as sharing a smile, improving yourself on all levels.
